Marie Kennedy has been the Director of the Eugene I. Kane Student Fitness Center since its opening in 2004.  As director she has expanded the programs offered by the fitness center to include fitness classes, mind & body classes, personal training, Cardinal Adventures Outdoor Recreation, Cardinal Striders Running and Sport Performance Training. In 2007 Kennedy joined the CUA men's and women's track and field teams as the jumps coach.

Kennedy has been teaching, coaching and training athletes for over 30 years.  She has experience with a wide variety of sports including basketball, soccer, field hockey and track as well as performance training and conditioning.

The Pittsburgh native graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in health physical education and recreation.  She was captain of the women's track and field team and a nationally ranked competitor.  She competed in the high jump, 400 meters and the 4X400-meter relay.  Kennedy qualified for nationals three times in the high jump, and was ranked as high as fourth in the event.  She was also a recipient of the Blue Gold Award for scholarship and athletic achievement as well as a Rhodes Scholar nominee.

Kennedy lives in Great Falls, Va., with her husband Don, a retired Navy commander. Their daughters Stephanie and Kristen are graduates of CUA’s school of engineering. Stephanie played tennis at CUA and is currently pursuing her Ph.D., at Duke University.  Kristen is a biomedical engineer, ran track at CUA and is employed by Raytheon Corporation.
