John F. "Jack" Bruen '72

Jack Bruen coached basketball for seven seasons at CUA, was the third-winningest coach, and compiled the second-highest winning percentage in school history at .604. In his first season as coach, Bruen led Catholic to its first winning season in 12 years, including an upset of No. 1 Roanoke. Under his leadership, Catholic won six tournament championships, including the 1986 ECAC South Region Tournament. The 1985-86 team enjoyed the first national ranking (No. 16) in school history. As a player for Catholic, Bruen was a three-year starting point guard and two-time captain. Bruen set school records for most assists in a season and the best season assist average. He is ranked fourth all-time in career assists (503), second in career assist average (7.1) and has the second-most assists in a single game (17).
