Charles Boettner '75
Inducted Oct. 22, 1999
Boettner compiled a career 26-4 record at Catholic and set several records, including a 19-strikeout game against Trinity (Conn.) in 1974. At one stretch he had 129 strikeouts in 133 innings pitched. As a senior, he beat the Philadelphia Phillies' minor leaguers in an exhibition in Clearwater, Fla., compiled a 7-1 record with a 1.26 ERA, and five-hit Towson to lead Catholic to the Mason-Dixon Conference championship. As a junior, he was named a Metro Fall League All-Star, batting .322.
Boettner was a teammate of Hall of Famer Andy Kurkjian from elementary school through college, and from 1968 to 1975 it would have been difficult to see Boettner throw a pitch when Kurkjian was not behind the plate.
