Dr. Andrew L. Kurkjian '75

Inducted Oct. 22, 1999

A four-year starter at catcher for the baseball team, Kurkjian led the team in home runs, doubles, and RBI over that span. A two-time Mason-Dixon Conference and Fall Metro League All-Star, he set school records in 1974 for home runs (8) and RBI (25) over a 20-game season. Kurkjian was ranked in the Top 10 in Division I for homers per at-bat. He also threw out 45% of attempted basestealers as a senior, including six in a 1-0, 10-inning win against Howard.

Kurkjian was a teammate of Hall of Famer Chuck Boettner from elementary school through college, and from 1968 to 1975 it would have been difficult to see Boettner throw a pitch when Kurkjian was not behind the plate.
