WCC Competes at 5k

The CUA women's cross country team competed on the morning of October 14, 2006 in the annual Riverfest 5K race, which benefits the First Generation College Bound organization. First Generation College Bound is a program that aims to send high school students to colleges and universities throughout the United States.  This organization stands apart from others because these students are the first in their families, including their parents, to receive a college education.

The squad, recognizing the importance of scholastics, stepped away from the NCAA racing regime to support First Generation College Bound and the students they aid.  Sophomores Mary Shashaty and Jenna Hackett, took first and second place respectively while coach Joe Fisher won the Master's Division.  Sophomore Teresa Mascia and junior Samantha McClellan received honors in their age group for their performances.  Finally, Father Frank Gignac won his age division his a time of 35:30. The total winnings were an outstanding $400, all of which was donated back to the First Generation College Bound organization.
