Four Cardinals Earn First Team All-Landmark
Little named conference Rookie of the Year

5/1/2008

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America baseball team had five players named to the All-Landmark Conference squad the league announced Thursday.  CUA had four players on the first team and one on the second.  Additionally, freshman Tommy Little (Hyattsville, Md./DeMatha) was voted the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year.  The All-Landmark team includes a first and second team with 12 selections on each team. The voting for the team was done by position.

Senior Joe Maca (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Saint Dominic) earned first team honors at shortstop ranking second in the conference in assists with 114  and posting a .959 fielding percentage.  Despite leading the CUA defense, Maca's abilities at the plate have been the Cards' biggest asset this season.  The senior has a .376 batting average with 53 hits, 43 runs scored, 21 hits for extra bases and 32 RBI.  His 27 stolen bases and seven triples are both conference bests.  This is Maca's fourth selection to the all-conference squad.

Joining Maca in the infield and on the first team was second baseman Matthew Rosner (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West).  The senior leads the conference in assists with 121 and has a .990 fielding percentage.  On the basepath he ranks seventh in the conference in stolen bases with 12 and at the plate Rosner is hitting .341 ranking third on the squad in RBI with 30.  This is his second selection to the all-conference team.

Reliever Michael Bzozowski (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) also made the first team as he leads the league in saves and has pitched the Cardinals out of a number of jams this season.  The sophomore's eight season saves is the best in the Landmark and ranks him seventh in the nation.  He has finished a conference-best 14 games with a 3-1 record.  Bzozowski has an ERA of 0.38 and 25 strikeouts for the season.  He was named the Landmark Player of the Week earlier this year.

Rounding out the first team is freshman outfielder Little who was also selected the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year.  Little has started in 32 of 36 games played and has a .364 batting average ranking second on the team in runs scored with 43.  Little's on base percentage is his true asset to the squad notching a .469 average making him eighth in the Landmark.  In the outfield he has 61 putouts with a .969 fielding percentage.

Senior Mike Goodman (Brookville, Md./Sherwood) was selected to the Landmark Conference second team in his first year on the team.  The football player decided to give baseball a try and moved into the starting position at first base and hitting cleanup.  He has started all 37 of his games played this season.  Goodman is hitting .347 on the year with a team-best 33 RBI ranking him eighth in the league.  He is fourth in the conference in home runs with six.  In the field, Goodman leads the Landmark with 286 putouts and has a .971 fielding percentage.

The third-seeded Cardinals will face Susquehanna, the second seed, on Friday in the opening round of the Landmark Conference Tournament.  The four-team event will be held at Juniata College and the game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
