Cardinals announce 2012 schedule

WASHINGTON – 2011 Landmark Conference champion CUA has announced its 2012 schedule, which includes 14 home dates, a trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C. and matchups vs. NCAA Regional participants Messiah, Johns Hopkins, Shenandoah, Salisbury and Frostburg State.  The 2011 Cardinals won their third conference title in four years and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1977.

After opening its season on the road at Mary Washington in late February, CUA will return home to play six games, beginning with the first of a home-and-home series vs. Messiah on February 22.

A doubleheader vs. Swarthmore (Feb. 25), along with single games against Muhlenberg (Feb. 26), McDaniel (Feb. 28) and York (March 1) will follow.

Next up for the Cardinals is a trip to Myrtle Beach to compete in the Ripken Experience.  Last season, CUA played seven games in South Carolina, winning four of them.

Upon returning to Washington, CUA will welcome Johns Hopkins to town on March 12.  The Cardinals and Blue Jays faced off in last year's NCAA Tournament in Lakewood, N.J., with Johns Hopkins coming out on top 7-2.

CUA opens its Landmark Conference schedule on St. Patrick's Day when the Cardinals travel to Pennsylvania to face Moravian.  The Cardinals and Greyhounds will play a doubleheader on March 17 and a single game the next day.

The road trip continues for CUA with a visit to Washington College on March 21, and three days later the Cardinals will head to New Jersey to face Drew in another three-game conference set.

March 28 will bring a strong Shenandoah squad to Talbot Field and later that week CUA hosts Juniata in its conference home opener.

The next three games are all on the road (Salisbury, Stevenson, Frostburg State), before CUA returns home to face Mary Washington on April 10.  The weekend of April 14-15 will see the Cardinals play host to Landmark foe Merchant Marine Academy.

CUA closes out its road schedule with five straight games away from home, beginning on April 17 at Bridgewater.  A three-game conference series with Susquehanna will take place the weekend of April 21-22, followed by a trip to Messiah on April 24.

The Cardinals regular season will come to a finish the weekend of April 28-29 when CUA welcomes Scranton to Talbot Field.  The Cardinals defeated the Royals in last year's hard-fought Landmark Conference championship.

CUA opens its 2012 season on Sunday, February 19 when the Cardinals head to Mary Washington.  First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
