CUA opens spring break trip with 7-2 win over King's
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – CUA began its spring break trip on a high note, downing King's College 7-2 on Sunday evening. Adam Schroth earned the win on the mound for the Cardinals, while the CUA offense totaled nine hits to send the team to its third straight win.
CUA got things started in the top of the first when Marc Hanna drove home Tommy Little with a sac fly.
The lead reached three in the second when a pair of Cardinals crossed home plate. Dan Sullivan led the frame off with a walk, and two batters later, Colin McCarthy delivered a run-scoring double to make it 2-0 CUA.
Later in the inning, Little stroked a single that plated McCarthy to give the Cardinals a 3-0 advantage.
King's got on the board for the first time in the bottom of the second with a single run, but CUA came right back and scored twice in the top of the third to open up a 5-1 lead.
Hanna led things off with a single and Brendan Breslin followed with an RBI double. With one out, Trevor Falk stepped to the dish and cracked a double, which plated Breslin.
CUA finished its scoring in the sixth when two more runners scored. McCarthy led the inning off with a double and later came around on a King's error. Later in the frame, Tim Mierzwa reached on an error, and after stealing second, he came around on a Mark Kalokitis single to make it 7-1.
King's was able to score once in the bottom of the ninth, but by that time, it was too little, too late.
