Cardinals win streak snapped after falling to Mary Washington

WASHINGTON – The Cardinals saw their two-game win streak come to an end on Tuesday after CUA (18-11) fell to Mary Washington 13-3 at Talbot Field.  The Eagles (11-15-1) scored eight runs in the final three innings to break open what had been a 5-3 game to earn the win.

Mary Washington jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning.  Ben Sisk doubled in Shane Sixsmith for the game's first run and after Brent Steffey doubled home Sisk and Connor Wells, the Eagles were on top by three.

Santino Rosanova's RBI single completed the first-inning scoring for Mary Washington.

CUA got on the board with three runs in the bottom of the second.  Colin McCarthy was hit by a pitch and moved down to second on a wild pitch to get things started.

Marc Hanna then reached on an infield single and after Brendan Breslin singled to center, the bases were loaded.

A walk to Mark Kalokitis forced in the Cardinals' first run and RBI ground outs by Dan Sullivan and Dan Hinchcliff pulled CUA to within one.

The Eagles upped their lead to 5-3 with a single run in the fourth, which came on an RBI ground out by Jonathan Haught.

The lead reached four in the seventh when two more Mary Washington runs crossed.  Sisk scored on a double play and Steffey came home on a passed ball to make it 7-3.

A Connor Wells sac fly to right field in the eighth brought home the Eagles' eighth run and Mary Washington then blew things open with a five-run ninth.

Tom Egan was dealt the loss on the mound for CUA after he gave up four runs on four hits in only one-third of an inning, while Zach Hendrix earned the win for the visitors after he went 5.0 innings and allowed three runs on three hits.

CUA returns to action on Saturday afternoon when the Cardinals host Merchant Marine Academy in a doubleheader.  First pitch of game one from Talbot Field is set for noon.
