CUA falls to No. 4 Salisbury on the road

SALISBURY, Md. – CUA dropped an 11-1 decision at No. 4 Salisbury on Wednesday afternoon, ending the Cardinals' three-game winning streak.  The Sea Gulls broke a scoreless tie with six runs in the fourth and CUA was unable to get on the board until the eighth inning.

CUA had a chance to score in the first after Tommy Little led off with a single and moved down to second on a sac bunt by Tim Mierzwa

Two batters later Matt Grieb walked and Colin McCarthy singled to load the bases for the Cardinals, but Mark Kalokitis struck out to end the inning.

Salisbury broke the scoreless tie with six runs in the fourth, with two of the runs scoring on a wild pitch, Ken O'Neill singling home two runs, and Joey Jones and Chris Connor singling home one run each.

The Sea Gulls added one run in the fifth, and two runs in the sixth and seventh to open up an 11-0 lead.

CUA got on the board when Dan Haus doubled in Mike McFarland in the eighth, but that was the only run the Cardinals were able to push across.

Justin D'Alessandro went 3.1 innings for CUA, allowing four runs on four hits in that time, and he suffered the loss, while Kevin Farley, Rob Steinkopf, Greg Vernier and Brian Cahill came on in relief.

Jeff Hoffman was the game's winning pitcher after he struck out four and did not allow any runs in seven innings.

Little led CUA with two hits, while Nick Scali, Marc Hanna, McCarthy, Haus, and Wes Stonelake added one hit apiece.

CUA is right back at it on Thursday when the Cardinals hit the road to face Mary Washington.  First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
