McCarthy and Schroth honored by Landmark Conference
WASHINGTON – After helping lead CUA to a sweep of Juniata over the weekend, Colin McCarthy and Adam Schroth were named the Landmark Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, on Monday. This marks the second straight week that Schroth has captured the award.
McCarthy had a monster week at the dish, going 7 for 11 (.636) with four runs scored, a double, a home run, 10 runs batted in and a 1.000 slugging percentage. He also notched 20 putouts and finished with a 1.000 fielding percentage at first base.
McCarthy went 3 for 4 with four RBI in a game one win over Juniata on Saturday, followed by a 1 for 3 showing with one RBI in game two. On Sunday, McCarthy went 3 for 4 with five runs batted in, in addition to his first collegiate home run in CUA's 15-10 come-from-behind win over the Eagles.
For the season, McCarthy is batting an impressive .510 with 25 hits, 14 runs, eight doubles, and 22 RBI.
Schroth earns his second straight Pitcher of the Week award after shutting Juniata out in an 8-0 game two win on Saturday. The sophomore hurler went six innings, struck out eight and only allowed one hit. Schroth only faced 20 batters in six innings.
Schroth is now 4-1 on the year with a 2.70 earned run average and 23 strikeouts in 26.2 innings.
CUA and its pair of award winners return to the diamond on Wednesday afternoon when the Cardinals travel to No. 5 Salisbury for a 3:30 p.m. showdown.
