McFarland named Landmark Conference Player of the Week

WASHINGTON – After helping to lead CUA to a three-game sweep of Susquehanna over the weekend, sophomore Mike McFarland was named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week on Monday. McFarland recorded an impressive .571 batting average, on base percentage and slugging percentage last week, as well as a perfect fielding percentage.

McFarland is the sixth Cardinal to receive Player of the Week honors this season, joining Nick Clary, Robin Mowatt, Charlie Dillon, Mark Kalokitis, and Marc Hanna.

In Saturday’s game one win over Susquehanna, McFarland went 2 for 3 with three runs batted in and a run scored. His two-run single in the 4th inning pulled CUA to within 4-3 of the Crusaders, and set the stage for a six-run frame.

McFarland then went 2 for 3 in the nightcap, driving in another run and scoring once. Behind the plate, McFarland registered two putouts and an assist to help CUA clinch the top seed in next month’s Landmark Conference Tournament. The sophomore added another run-scoring single in this game, cutting the Cards' deficit to 2-1 in the 2nd inning.

For the season, McFarland is batting .283 with 13 hits, 11 runs batted in and nine runs scored. He has also totaled 52 putouts, nine assists and a .984 fielding percentage.

McFarland and the Cardinals return to action on Tuesday when they host Stevenson. Start time is set for 4 p.m.
