CUA falls to No. 4 Salisbury 8-2

WASHINGTON – CUA fell to No. 4 Salisbury 8-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Talbot Field. After the Sea Gulls scored three runs in the 1st, the Cardinals cut it to a one-run game in the 2nd, but Salisbury scored once in the 4th and four more times in the 7th to pull away. Following today's action, CUA is 17-9, while the Sea Gulls improve to 18-5.

Salisbury jumped out to a 3-0 lead on the Cards in the 1st inning. Quinn Griffith drove in the first run with a single, and Evan Graci's fielder's choice brought across the second Sea Gull.

A sac fly by Danny Breen then plated Nick Gentry to give the visitors a three-run advantage.

CUA got on the board with a single run in the bottom of the frame, with Nick Clary's infield single bringing across Pat DeToro.

The Cardinals then cut it to a one-run game with another run in the 2nd. This time, it was a Salisbury error that brought across the CUA run.

In the 4th, Salisbury went up 4-2 when Bill Root's infield single plated Austin Barefoot.

The Sea Gulls then broke things open with a four-run 7th. Graci drove in the first run with a double down the right field line, and Breen's single to center plated Griffith to make it 6-2.

Graci then came around on Barefoot's single and Breen came around when Ken O'Neill delivered a single to center field.

Dylan Anderson started the game for Salisbury and went 2.2 innings, before Jeff Oster went 4.1 innings and struck out three to earn the win.

CUA starter Robin Mowatt went six innings, allowed four runs and struck out one, before giving way to Colin Kelly, Will O'Leary and Miles Semetis.

CUA hits the road on Thursday to face St. Mary's. Start time is set for 3:30 p.m.
