WASHINGTON – Wyatt Schmidt led the Cardinals with two runs, six hits, two doubles and an RBI during the Cardinals two conference losses to Moravian on Saturday.
The Cardinals dropped a 3-2 decision in the opening contest and suffered a 7-6 defeat at the end of game two.
During game one of the day, Moravian took a 2-0 lead after their time at bat in the bottom of the fourth. CUA tied the contest with two runs in the top of the fifth. As, the contest went into extra innings, Moravian scored one run on the bottom of the 11th inning to take the win.
On Schmidt four times at the plate, the shortstop recorded one run and three hits. With a team-high eight assists from Nick Clary and seven assists from Schmidt, first baseman Andrew Stewart recorded 23 putouts.
Robert Mowatt and Chris Nee shared the mound, with Nee taking the loss and Mowatt striking out three batters.
CUA took the lead in game two by registering two runs in the top of the third and three runs on the top of the fourth for a 5-1 lead. Moravian answered back with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game 5-5. The Cards took the lead yet again on a single run on the top of the seventh. But, with the field advantage in their favor, Moravian scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to secure a 7-6 win.
The final game of the afternoon consisted of one run, three hits and a single RBI from Schmidt.
Collectively, CUA recorded eight runs, 19 hits, four doubles and seven RBIs.
