WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America baseball team dropped their final game in a three-game Landmark Conference series to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, 2-1, on Sunday after noon.
After a Cardinals fielding error in the top of the second the Marines score two unearned runs to take a quick 2-0 lead. Catholic notched a run in the bottom of the third when Andrew Stewart fired a double to score Stefan Poggioli.
The Cardinals trailed the Mariners 2-1 though the remaining six innings. Karan Sinha made his seventh start of the year on the mound and was charged with the loss. Sinha pitched 8.1 innings and gave up just four hits and zero earned run while throwing three strikeouts. Joseph Salzano entered in the ninth to close out the last two outs of the conference series.
Prior to the game the Cardinals honored their seniors Daniel Hinchliff, Mike McFarland, and Tyler Cork. The Cards now sit at 18-11-1 in 2015 and fifth in the Landmark with a 9-9 record.
Catholic will host Frostburg State on Tuesday, April 21 at 4 p.m. at Robert J. Talbot Field.
