Catholic Falls, 9-2, to No. 9 Randolph-Macon

Ashland, Va. - In a midweek, nine inning game, The Catholic University of America baseball team fell 9-2 to No. 6 Randolph-Macon. The loss drives the Cardinals to 7-6 overall for the 2016 season while the Yellow Jackets advance to 14-2.

The nationally ranked Yellow Jackets came out strong, with four runs in the first inning. Their first run came off a bases loaded sacrifice fly from Micheal Trentham. Two batters later, John Butler hit a 2-RBI single into right center for RMC's opening four run lead.

Catholic's additional run came at the top of the fifth when sophomore Jake Crist singled to bring home Palladino.

The Yellow Jackets notched additional runs in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings for the midweek victory.

Palladino and classmate Eric Scamardella hit doubles for CUA while freshman Bailey Lewis, sophomore Danny O'Hagan, and junior Matt Hsiung registered hits for the Cards.

Six pitchers saw time on the rubber for the Cardinals, sophomore Jack Hennessy making his third start of the 2016 season. Senior Colin Kelly threw for two innings with two strikeouts while his classmates Joe Kelly and Josh Martin each pitched for an inning. Additionally freshman Jon Mierzwa and junior Mark Duffy spent time on the mound. 

The Cards continue their season on the road, opening Landmark Conference play against Moravian College on Saturday, March 19.
