Towson, Md. - Sophomore Jon Mierzwa and junior Jake Crist of The Catholic University of America baseball team garnered Landmark weekly awards after a 5-1 showing from the Cardinals over the last seven days.
Mierzwa threw 15 strikeouts in seven innings to capture a 5-1 win over Rutgers-Newark and was selected as the conference's Pitcher of the Week. The victory was Mierzwa's second straight Sunday afternoon triumph. He faced 26 batters, allowed just three hits and one run. The win lifted the Cardinals to a 10-2 overall record.
Crist was a powerhouse behind the plate as the designated hitter in all six of the Cardinals spring break games this week. He earned the Landmark Athlete of the Week award with a batting average of .481 over the week. Crist helped the Cards to a 5-1 week. Crist registered 13 hits, crushed four doubles and drove in eight RBIs over the course of the week.
The Cardinals will open Landmark Conference play with a three-game series versus Moravian starting on Saturday, March 18.
