WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America soared to a six-game win streak with a pair of victories over Moravian College on Sunday afternoon.
Junior Brennan Cotter led the Cardinals in game one, going 3-of-4 from behind the plate with two RBIs. Freshman Cid Porter also recorded two RBIs while Tran and juniors Jake Crist and Anthony Ferlise drove in one.
Down 6-4 in the seventh, Cotter drove an RBI double into the outfield and put himself in position for the tying run. Freshman Connor Cozad pinch ran for Cotter and tied the game on a sacrifice fly from classmate Porter.
Senior closer Joseph Salzano took the Catholic mound in the top of the eighth. He tossed three strikeouts in three innings and earned his second win of the 2017 season. Freshman Ross Dean opened on the rubber and pitched five innings. Seniors Mark Duffy and Sean Carroll each pitched relief.
Catholic topped Moravian 5-1 in game two. Sophomore Jon Mierzwa started on the mound and threw eight strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Freshman Colin Cunningham pitched the final 1.2 innings and earned his first career save.
Cotter went 2-of-3 from behind the plate with two doubles and scored a run in the fifth inning. Sullivan registered two RBIs. Senior Paul Burmester and Crist each registered a RBI.
