Salzano Earns Pitcher of the Week Recognition

Towson, Md. - Senior Joseph Salzano has been selected as the Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Week after The Catholic University of America baseball team opened league play with two wins over Moravian College on Saturday.

The Cardinals won the first game of the conference doubleheader 7-6 in extra innings. The closer from South Riding, Va., took the Catholic mound in the top of the eighth and pitched all three extra innings of game one. Salzano tossed three strikeouts in three innings and earned his second win of the 2017 season.

The senior gave up just one hit and recorded three assists in three total chances. Salzano gave the Catholic offense the opportunity to capture the extra-innings victory as Moravian left five total runners on base during his showing. Classmate Thien-Quoc Tran hit a walk-off single in the 10th to end the first game.

The Cardinals face toff against McDaniel on Tuesday, March 21. They will continue Landmark play against Drew on Saturday, March 25.
