WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America baseball team outplayed the Bison of Gallaudet University 16-3 on Thursday afternoon.
Sophomore Bailey Lewis went 2-of-2 at the plate with two runs and five RBIs. Lewis singled down the left side in the first inning to score senior Brett Padula and followed with a grand slam in the second inning which scored Padula, freshman Sean Dempsey and junior Bo Williams.
Freshman Connor Sullivan recorded three hits and three RBIs. Sullivan sent a 2-RBI double to center field in the first inning to score Lewis and junior Brennan Cotter. He then hit an RBI single in the fifth to score junior Jake Crist.
Catholic freshman Nolan Lundholm scored classmate Jack Ropelewski with an RBI single in the sixth inning while Ropelewski's at-bat in the seventh scored Sullivan and fellow freshman Jeff Guile. Freshman Eric Moore came across the bag in the seventh inning on an RBI single from classmate Cid Porter. Crist (2), Cotter and Guile each come home on Bison miscues.
Catholic senior Joseph Prego earned his first win of the season after he pitched five innings and recorded three strikeouts for the Cardinals. Fellow senior Christopher Hutton along with Ropelewski each threw an inning of relief and Moore closed out the final inning on the rubber.
Catholic returns home for a Landmark Conference series against Susquehanna beginning Saturday, April 1. The Cardinals and River Hawks are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday, first pitch is slated at 1 p.m.
