Catholic Baseball Downed by Stevenson, 5-4

Owings Mills, Md.  - The Catholic University of America baseball team fell 5-4 to Stevenson University on Wednesday afternoon.

Catholic senior Paul Burmester led the Catholic offense and recorded two hits in four at-bats with one RBI. Catholic infielders senior Nicholas Kuczarski, junior Jack Hennessy and sophomore Ryan Tracy each recorded RBIs of their own.

The Mustangs opened with one run in the first and third innings before Kuczarski batted in Hennessey in the sixth. Stevenson brought three more across the plate for a 5-1 lead through seven innings.

The Cardinals went on a three-run eighth inning rally but came up short after a complete game. With two outs and runners in scoring position, Burmester drove in classmate Brett Padula with a single to left field. RBI's from Hennessy and Kuczarski scored freshmen Connor Sullivan and Connor Cozad, respectively, before the Mustangs retired the final batter.

Senior Joseph Prego recorded the Cardinals' loss after pitching three innings. Sophomore Collin Brown pitched three innings of relieve with five strikeouts. Seniors Mark Duffy and Joseph Salzano along with junior David Gately closed out the last three innings on the rubber.

The Cardinals return home for a Landmark Conference series versus the University of Scranton beginning Saturday, April 5 at 1 p.m.
