WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America baseball team continues to rack up the accolades with two more all-region selections. Junior first baseman Brennan Cotter was selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) / Rawlings All-Mid-Atlantic First Team, while sophomore pitcher Jon Mierzwa is now a two-time all-region player this season as part of the Second Team.
Catholic enjoyed a strong season with a 28-14 overall record. The Cardinals posted the most wins in program history and secured a Regular Season Landmark Conference Championship.
Cotter was a force offensively for the Cards as he was selected to the Landmark First Team. He was second in the league with 38 RBI and eight home runs in 2017. The Oakland, N.J., native boasted a .386 batting average and .650 slugging percentage. Cotter was also a two-time Landmark Athlete of the Week.
Cotter is Catholic's first ABCA All-Region First Teamer in the Landmark Conference era.
Mierzwa, the Cardinals' ace, adds to his trophy case as he was honored as a D3baseball.com All-Region selection earlier today. He led the Landmark with eight victories and 90 strikeouts. He also ranked 11th nationally in K's per nine innings.
