WASHINGTON - Junior Billy Rue (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) went 2-for-3 with three RBI and Chris Tiedemann (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) threw five shutout innings to help Catholic to its second win in a row, downing Columbia Union 7-3 on Friday afternoon at Robert J. Talbot Field.

Rue doubled in the third inning to knock in Andrew Burns (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert) and then added a two-run single in the fifth scoring Burns and Brian Pietryka (Columbia, Md./Hammond).

Sophomore Tim Bottomly (Herndon, Va./Paul VI) went 1-for-3 and added an RBI single in the eighth.

Pat Clark (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore), Terence O'Rourke (San Diego, Calif./La Jolla), Mark Werle (Pompano Beach, Fla./Gibbons), and Brandon Bowron (Fairfax Station, Va./W.T. Woodson) all pitched an inning in relief of starter Tiedemann (1-0).

David Perez took the loss on the mound but managed to go 3-for-4 with an RBI at the plate for Columbia Union (1-5).

Catholic (2-0) returns to action tomorrow with a doubleheader with Messiah starting at noon.
