Catholic 21, Gallaudet 1

WASHINGTON - Catholic used big innings in the first and fourth to defeat Gallaudet 21-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Robert J. Talbot Field in a CAC game. Mike Pomfret (East Hampton, Conn./Xavier) led the attack with a leadoff home run and a two-run triple in the first inning as the Cardinals batted around and sent seven runners across home plate. The senior finished 2-for-3 with three RBI. Brendan Walsh (Richboro, Pa./Host Ghost) also went 2-for-3 with two RBI as Catholic pounded out 24 hits in the win.

Sophomore Mike DiNicola (Lyndhurst, N.J./Don Bosco) had a two-run double to highlight the scoring in the fourth.

Tim Webster (Langhorne, Pa./Notre Dame) had a game-high four hits. The junior was 4-for-6, with four runs scored and another knocked in for Catholic (5-1, 2-0 CAC).

Starter Joe Sobocinski (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) picked up the win as the freshman went four innings, striking out seven, while allowing four hits, a run with two walks.

Gallaudet (0-4, 0-1 CAC) used a Curtis Christopherson RBI double in the top of the first for its only run.

Catholic travels to Salisbury on Thursday for a CAC game with the Sea Gulls. Game time is 2:30 p.m.
