WASHINGTON - Catholic took a pair of games from visiting Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday, 4-0 and 3-2. The Cardinals move their record to 14-7-1 on the year.

The bat of Michael Miller (Cranbury, N.J./Peddie School) proved to be the difference in Game 1 as the sophomore hit a grand slam in the fifth to account for all the scoring. Junior Pat Clark (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) scattered three hits, three strikeouts, and five walks over five innings to raise his record to 3-1 on the season. Reliever Doug Sherry (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) threw two hitless innings to nail down his third save. Senior Bryan Pietryka (Columbia, Md./Hammond) was 2-for-3 at the plate.

The Tigers (6-6) Tim Pritchard was strong in defeat throwing six innings, striking out 10 and just walking one, while surrendering the grand slam by Miller.

In Game 2, Miller struck again as his RBI single in the first gave CUA a 1-0 lead. It was 2-0 in the same inning as sophomore Tim Bottomly (Herndon, Va./Paul VI) drew a bases-loaded walk to score Justin Siller (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell).

Down 3-1 in the sixth, RIT cut the lead in half as Marty Maynard hit his second double of the game scoring Jim Fogarty from third. Maynard was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Starter Brandon Bowron (Fairfax Station, Va./W.T. Woodson) went 6-1/3 innings, giving up just five hits, two runs (one unearned), while fanning two batters.

After a lead-off single by RIT's Jay Musialowski and sacrifice to second in the seventh, Bowron was replaced by Eric Cortina (East Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony's) who shut down the next two batters to earn the save.

The two teams will play again in a single game tomorrow at Robert J. Talbot Field. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
