Adam Weiss lowered his ERA to 2.49.
WASHINGTON - Junior Adam Weiss (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Farmingdale) picked up his eighth win of the season, setting a CUA school record for wins in a year, as Catholic handed St. Mary's a 9-1 defeat in a CAC matchup at Talbot Field Wednesday afternoon.
Weiss went eight shutout innings, allowing just five hits and two walks, while fanning four. He did not allow a hit until the fourth. His eighth win betters Brian Bickerton's seven games won in 1997.
The Cardinals (19-12-2, 5-4 CAC) jumped out quickly in the bottom of the first as junior Justin Siller (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) smacked a three-run homer to right, his second on the year, and Andrew Burns (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert) had an RBI single to put CUA ahead 4-0.
Siller would strike again in the sixth with an RBI triple, scoring Brian Pietryka (Columbia, Md./Hammond). Siller finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored and four knocked in. Pietryka was 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
Justin Saloom led the Seahawks (10-19-1, 3-7 CAC), going 2-for-4 with an RBI double in the ninth.
Catholic returns to action tomorrow as they play a non-league game at Rutgers-Camden at Campbell's Field in Camden, N.J. at 3:30 p.m.
