SALISBURY, MD - Senior Justin Siller went 3-for-4 with two RBI's and hit his first home run of the season but Salisbury edged the Cardinals, 8-7, in a Capital Athletic Conference game.
Siller smacked a two-run shot to left field in the top of the first to give CUA a quick 2-0 lead but the Sea Gulls answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame.
With the score tied 6-6 in the fifth, Matt Johnson gave Salisbury a one-run lead with his RBI single off starter Doug Sherry. The senior went six innings, allowing nine hits, three earned runs, while walking three and striking out three.
Freshman Kevin Conley's RBI single scoring Tim Bottomly in the seventh tied it at 7-7.
But Salisbury (10-5-1, 6-0 CAC) took the lead for good in the bottom of the seventh as Brandon Mason knocked home Andrew Eisenhart off loser Peter Doyle (3-1) to give the Sea Gulls a 8-7 lead. Doyle relieved Sherry in the seventh.
Catholic (8-4, 1-2 CAC) threatened in the ninth as the Cardinals had runners on first and second with one out but could not get them across the plate.
The Cardinals pounded out 13 hits but committed five errors.
Junior Dan Conway finished with three hits and an RBI and Bernie Dennis was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Catholic looks to avenge Saturday's 11-5 loss to York tomorrow as the two teams meet in a CAC tilt in York, Pa. at 2:30 p.m.
