Catholic outslugs Randolph-Macon

WASHINGTON - Senior Justin Siller was 3-for-6 with three doubles to tie a CUA single season record for doubles in a season to highlight Catholic's 17-13 nonleague win over Randolph-Macon Tuesday afternoon at Talbot Field.
Siller, right, was 3-for-6 with three runs scored and two knocked in as he smacked two RBI doubles and added his third extra base hit of the game in the eighth inning to raise his season total to 18, tying Neil Roach's mark set in 1989.
Siller was one of three Cardinals with three hits as senior Mark Soisson was 3-for-4 with five RBI's and three runs scored and freshman Joe Benedetti was 3-for-5 with two runs knocked in as Catholic had a season-high 18 hits.
Soisson smacked his second home run, his second in two days, in the second while Benedetti also homered in consecutive days with his solo blast, his third of the season, in the fourth.
Down 11-10 going into the bottom of the eighth, Catholic crossed seven runs highlighted by sophomore John Schmidt's two-run homer to take a commanding lead going into the ninth. Schmidt was 2-for-6 with three RBI's.
Sophomore McClain Tini (2-1) picked up his second win in two days in relief of starter Mark Werle.
Sophomore Jason Funk added two RBI doubles for Catholic (18-12).
The Yellow Jacket's Ricky Palmer was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI's.
