Four runs seperated the two teams today as CUA fell to Scranton 11-8 and 9-8. Joe Devine (Medford Lakes/Shawnee) led the way for the CUA offense with two hits and four RBIs. His five walks and stolen base helped the Cardinals score 16 runs on the day.

While college students across the nation flock to warm beaches to escape the cold winter that has been gripping the northeast, CUA baseball traveled to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina hoping for a warmer climate. Ross Natoli Winter Baseball Camps at Catholic University
Head Coach Ross Natoli will conduct his 23nd Annual Winter Instructional Baseball Camps at Catholic University’s DuFour Athletic Center. Several sessions are offered and space is still available. Two Youth and High School Fundamentals Mini-Camps will be held on December 12-14 and December 27-29, 2008 and three sessions of Pre-Season Camps will be conducted on the weekends from January 10-February 15, 2009.

Maca and Little Honored on ECAC All-Star Squad
Senior Joe Maca (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Saint Dominic) and freshman Tommy Little (Hyattsville, Md./DeMatha) both earned a place on the D-III South Region Eastern College Athletic Conference second team, the organization announced Wednesday. The conference selected 22 athletes from among the southern schools for the honor. Little was one of just two freshmen to earn recognition.

Landmark Announces Spring All-Academic Team
The Landmark Conference has announced that 32 student-athletes have been honored with selection to the 2008 Spring Landmark All-Academic Team. Two male and two female athletes from each of the eight Landmark institutions were selected for the team which honors athletes who have excelled athletically and academically. Nominees could compete in any of the Landmark spring sports and must be a sophomore or older with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.

Bzozowski Earns D3Baseball.com All-American Honors
The Catholic University of America’s sophomore reliever Michael Bzozowski (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) was selected to the D3baseball.com All-American squad with an honorable mention. The team is comprised of four different squads, with 63 athletes and 17 pitchers. The first team All-Landmark and second team All-South Region winner is one of only three players from the Landmark Conference to earn All-American honors.

The Catholic University of America Department of Athletics held its annual Senior Banquet Thursday honoring all graduating athletes and giving out end of the year awards. The awards are given out annually to a male and female who have impacted their team on the playing field for the last four years.

The Catholic University of America Department of Athletics held its annual Senior Banquet Thursday honoring all graduating athletes and giving out end of the year awards. This year was especially significant as Director of Athletics Mike Allen announced the former SAAC Role Model Award was going to be renamed the Dowd Student-Athlete Role Model Award after longtime Senior Women’s Administrator Jone Dowd who retired this spring.

Cardinals Win Baseball Landmark Championship
The third-seeded Catholic University baseball squad (26-13-1) overcame adversity this past weekend to win the Landmark Conference Championship by defeating the University of Scranton (26-16), 16-7, in the deciding game. The Cardinals beat both the first and second seeds earlier in the tourney to then face fourth-seeded Scranton coming out of the loser’s bracket. This marks the second Landmark Conference team championship in two days for CUA.

The Catholic University of America baseball team (25-13-1) pulled off a 5-3 upset of the top-seeded and hosting Juniata College Eagles (26-11) Saturday in the Landmark Conference tournament. Without a loss in the double-elimination tournament, the Cardinals will play on Sunday in the Landmark Conference Championship needing only one win to get the title, a loss will force a second game.

Cardinals Advance in Ten-Inning Comeback Win
The third-seeded Catholic University baseball squad (24-13-1) needed every second of its ten-inning contest against Susquehanna University (18-20) Friday in its opening game of the Landmark Conference Tournament. After falling behind 14-0 in the first five innings, the third-seeded Cardinals staged a tremendous comeback to force extra innings and get the eventual 17-16 victory over the second-seeded Crusaders.

The Catholic University of America baseball team had five players named to the All-Landmark Conference squad the league announced Thursday. CUA had four players on the first team and one on the second. Additionally, freshman Tommy Little (Hyattsville, Md./DeMatha) was voted the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year. The All-Landmark team includes a first and second team with 12 selections on each team. The voting for the team was done by position.

The Catholic University baseball squad swept the Drew University Rangers (on Sunday to close out a three-game Landmark Conference series and the league. The Cardinals won 15-4 and 12-4 on Saturday before coming back with a 12-8 victory on Sunday. The wins give CUA a 23-13-1 record going 11-7 in conference play, a berth in the Landmark Conference tournament and the third seed.

The Catholic University baseball squad got a big comeback win over the Washington College Shoremen (16-21) Thursday afternoon at Talbot Field. CUA trailed until the bottom of the ninth where some wild occurrences allowed two runs to score. CUA won it 7-6 in the bottom of the 11th. The Cards are now 20-13-1 on the season with four contests remaining.

The Catholic University baseball team picked up a non-conference win Wednesday with an 11-3 victory over the Gettysburg College Bullets (16-21). The Cardinals got off to a quick start with a combined six runs in the first two innings. CUA is now 19-13-1 on the year with the victory.

The Catholic University baseball team defeated the Moravian College Greyhounds (16-17, 8-7 Landmark) Sunday 17-5 to claim the three-game series 2-1. The score mirrored that of yesterday’s second game which CUA also won. The Cardinals are now 18-13-1 overall and 7-6 in the Landmark Conference.

The Catholic University baseball squad split with the Moravian College Greyhounds (16-16, 8-6 Landmark) Saturday in the first two games of a three-game Landmark Conference series. The Cardinals lost the first contest 11-4 but came back and won the second 17-5. With the 1-1 result, CUA is now 17-13-1 on the season with a 7-7 conference record.

The Catholic University baseball team held on to a 5-4 lead despite some tough defensive situations Tuesday afternoon as they came out on top of the Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets (19-13) 5-4. More than once, the Cardinals allowed runners in scoring position but nearly every time they came away unscathed. CUA is now 16-12-1 on the season.

The Catholic University baseball team (13-11-1) settled for a 3-3 with the St. Mary’s Seahawks (14-17-1) Thursday afternoon in Maryland. The squads took it to 13 innings but the umpires called the marathon game due to darkness after almost four hours of play.

The Catholic University baseball squad pulled off a big victory Wednesday evening as it defeated the Shenandoah University Hornets (17-15), 6-5, at Talbot Field. CUA is now 13-11 on the season as they prepare for another Landmark Conference series this weekend.

The Catholic University baseball team came close to a major upset Thursday but Mother Nature stood in its way as rain ended a Cardinal comeback versus the #21 Johns Hopkins Blue Jays (16-3). The Cardinals fell 7-6 in five innings as the rain poured down. With the loss the Cardinals drop to 11-9 on the season while the Blue Jays continue their 12-game win streak.

With the .500 afternoon, CUA moves to 5-8 on the season as the team takes a few days off.

The Catholic University baseball team won its home opener in a 7-6 nailbiter as the Cards had to overcome a six-run deficit to get the victory. CUA defeated the Messiah College Falcons (3-5) to improve to 3-4 on the season and snap a four-game losing streak. The Cardinals put together a solid all-around performance with all nine starting batter registering a hit in the contest.

The Catholic University baseball team returned from its spring break trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., with a 2-4 record. Catholic University Head Baseball Coach Ross Natoli was honored Sunday evening as an inductee into the Home Plate Club’s Hall of Fame. The HPC is a non-profit organization which promotes baseball among youth in the Washington, D.C., area.

This also marks the first honor for Maca’s classmate and fellow infielder Matthew Rosner (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West).

The Catholic University baseball team was eliminated from the Capital Athletic Conference tournament Thursday afternoon in York, Pa. The Cards, currently 15-18, have six remaining games on the season, all scheduled for next week.

The Sea Gulls are currently ranked ninth in the country and improve to 23-7 while CUA drops to 15-17.

The Catholic University Cardinals will be well-represented in the mix with a trio squads earning three seeds. A fourteen-run fourth inning proved to be the key for the Catholic University baseball team as they beat the Gallaudet Bison (4-18) 19-3 Saturday afternoon. With the win the Cardinals improved to 15-16 and 6-4 in conference. Their 6-4 record gave them the third seed in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament starting on Tuesday.

CUA Drops Two to Scarlet Raptors
The Catholic University baseball squad (13-14) dropped a pair of games to the Rutgers-Camden Scarlet Raptors (12-13). The Cards fell 8-7 in twelve innings during the first game and 4-3 in the second.

Cardinals Take Out Seahawks 6-4
Matthew Rosner (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) registered three hits and two RBI in Catholic University’s 6-4 rout of the St. Mary’s College of Maryland Seahawks (14-13, 2-5 CAC) Thursday afternoon. With the victory the Cards improve to even on the season at 12-12 and .500 in Capital Athletic Conference play moving to 3-3.

Cardinals Best Eastern 5-3
The Catholic University baseball team beat the Eastern University Eagles (5-12), 5-3, Tuesday afternoon at Riverdale Park. The game marked CUA’s second win in a row after splitting with Villa Julie last Sunday. CUA improves to 11-12 for the season going into a number of tough Capital Athletic Conference games in the next week.

Cardinals Top Eagles in 13
The Catholic University baseball team, propelled by a seven-run eighth inning, hung around to beat the Mary Washington Eagles (10-6-1, 3-1 CAC) 11-9 in a thirteen-inning marathon. Looking at a 9-2 deficit CUA put together a huge eighth to force extra innings and eventually get the win.

The Catholic University baseball team held on to beat the Washington College Sailors 4-3 despite allowing three runs in the final innings. The Cardinals improve to 7-9 on the season while Washington dropped to .500 at 5-5.

Cards Fall to Spartans in CAC Showdown
The Catholic University baseball team lost to the York Spartans (8-4, 1-1 CAC) Wednesday afternoon. The Cards fell 10-2 after allowing a five-run eighth inning to put the game out of reach. CUA drops to 6-9 for the season and 1-2 in the Capital Athletic Conference. The Cardinals will get another crack at the Spartans in York on Saturday.

The Catholic University baseball team dropped a tough game to the McDaniel Green Terror (3-6) Tuesday evening at Povich Field. The Cardinals fell 14-5 and dropped to 6-8 for the season.

Cardinals Down #26 Salisbury
Catholic University baseball used strong fielding to get the 5-1 victory over the #26 Salisbury Sea Gulls (13-2, 1-1 CAC) Wednesday afternoon. The Cards rebounded from a tough 12-2 loss at the hands of the Sea Gulls last Saturday improving their record to 1-1 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

Cardinals Drop Final Game in Yellow Jacket Series
The Catholic University baseball team (5-6) dropped the final contest in their three-game series with the Randolph Macon Yellow Jackets (9-4-1) Sunday afternoon. CUA hosted the game at the University of Maryland as it waits for field renovations to be completed on campus. On the first weekend of the season the Cards had split with the Yellow Jackets but Sunday’s 17-7 decision game Randolph Macon the edge in the series.

Salisbury Bats Too Much for Cards
The Catholic University baseball squad fell in its first Capital Athletic Conference game of the season. The Cards dropped a 12-2 decision to the Salisbury Sea Gulls (11-1, 1-0 CAC) Saturday afternoon. The loss moves the Cards to 5-5 for the year and 0-1 in conference. Salisbury had 14 hits on the afternoon including three home runs.

Cards Go 4-3 in Florida
The Cardinals opened the invitational on Sunday, Feb. 25 with a 6-4 defeat of Johnson & Wales. Left fielder Bobby Picardo (Atlantic Highlands, N.J./Middletown South) and catcher Patrick Quintana (Denver, Colo./Littleton) each drove in two runs. With the game knotted at four in the bottom of the ninth, Quintana doubled, bringing Pedro Rivera (Fort Hood, Tx./Saint Branch) home from third and Joseph Maca (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Saint Dominic) around from first.

Men’s Tennis Splits Over Break
The Catholic University men’s tennis team split four matches in Hilton Head, S.C. over the break. In the first contest, the Cardinals fell 8-1 to Augustana. CUA lost all six singles matches, three in straight sets. Catholic University’s only victory over Augustana came when the doubles pairing of John Dillon (River Forest, Ill.) and Andrew Malone (Bethesda, Md.) defeated Augustana’s pair of Dave Gapp and Chris Mullin, 8-4.

The Catholic University baseball squad split a doubleheader with the Randolph Macon Yellow Jackets on opening weekend of the 2007 season. CUA dropped the first game 1-0 but came back to get the win in the second contest of the day 3-2. The Cards move to 1-1 for the season while the Yellow Jackets drop to 1-2.

Ross Natoli Winter Baseball Camps at Catholic University
Head Coach Ross Natoli will conduct the 21st Annual Winter Instructional Baseball Camps at Catholic University's DuFour Athletic Center. Several sessions are offered and space is still available. A Holiday Mini-Camp will be held on December 27-29, 2006 and three sessions of Pre-Season Camps will be offered on Friday evenings, Saturday mornings and Sunday mornings from January 5 - February 9, 2007.

On Friday, October 13th, the 14th Annual CUA Baseball Alumni and Friends Golf Tournament and Hole-in-One Shootout will be held at an exciting new venue, Renditions Golf Course in Davidsonville, Md. Registration begins at 12:00 p.m., and tee-off is at 1:30 p.m. An awards dinner will immediately follow.
