Michalski hits three-run homer
WASHINGTON- Mike Michalski (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to propel the Catholic University baseball squad (14-14, 5-3 Capital Athletic Conference) over the Gallaudet Bison, 8-2, Wednesday afternoon at Hoy Field. CUA improved to 5-3 in the CAC which keeps them in the hunt for a home game during the first round of the conference tournament next week.
CUA started out strong with Robbie O'Brien (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) smacking a triple to drive in Pedro Rivera (Fort Hood, Texas/Paint Branch) before crossing the plate himself on the next at bat. In the bottom of the second the Cards added one more thanks to Michalski's first RBI of the day on a single.
The Bison were quiet until the fourth and fifth innings where they scored one run apiece but that would be the end of the rally as CUA combined for five scores in the six and seventh. In the sixth inning, Joe Maca (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Saint Dominic) drive in two runners after a series of Bison errors allowed men on base. The seventh was all Michalski as he fired his triple to make it 8-2 which would prove to be the final.
O'Brien and Michalski each went 2-4 at the plate and Michalski led the squad with four RBI for the game. The Cards had 11 hits to Gallaudet's six and just two errors. Mike Geraghty (Burke, Va./Paul VI ) got the win for CUA pitching six innings with three strikeouts.
