Cardinals Take Out Seahawks 6-4
Rosner goes 3-4 with two RBI
ST. MARY'S CITY, Md.- Matthew Rosner (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) registered three hits and two RBI in Catholic University's 6-4 rout of the St. Mary's College of Maryland Seahawks (14-13, 2-5 CAC) Thursday afternoon. With the victory the Cards improve to even on the season at 12-12 and .500 in Capital Athletic Conference play moving to 3-3.
Joe Maca (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Saint Dominic) hit a two-run single up the middle in the top of the second to bring Sean Earley (Pequannock, N.J./Pequannock Township) and Rosner home and put CUA up 2-0. St. Mary's came back with one run in the third thanks to a triple by the lead off. With both teams going scoreless in the fourth, the fifth inning proves to be a big one for CUA.
Maca led off the inning with a homer to left field giving the Cards a two-run lead. Singles from Pedro Rivera (Fort Hood, Texas/Paint Branch), Robbie O'Brien (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) and Rosner put runners in scoring position as O'Brien and Rosner each accounted for an RBI making the score 6-1. St. Mary's managed runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings while Rosner capped off his strong performance with a single and RBI in the seventh making the final 6-4.
Rosner led the way going 3-4 with two RBI and Maca added a 2-5 performance batting in three runs on the afternoon. Andrew Moldawer (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) got the win for CUA on the mound with six strikeouts in five innings of work. Michael Bzozowski (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) was awarded the save facing four batters.
The Cards will continue their series with the Seahawks on Saturday with a game at Spaulding High School.
