Baseball Wins 8-4 over McDaniel
WASHINGTON-- CUA defeated McDaniel College today, 8-4 as men's baseball improved to one game below .500, 5-6.
Helped by six hit-by-pitches and five walks, CUA needed only nine hits to overcome the teams five defensive errors, to earn the non-conference win today.
Mike Goodman (Brookville/Sherwood) improved his batting average to .512 today, going two for two with three RBIs. Goodman is now slugging .854 for the year adding another double today, bringing his total to eight. Dave Grear (Runnemeade/Paul VI) added two RBIs in the contest for CUA as he went one for two, but reached on an error and hit a deep ball to left center for a sacrifice fly.
CUA opened the first inning with a single run, then fell behind after the top of the third, 3-1. The Cardinal response was swift and heavy as CUA plated four runs, but left two more runners stranded.
McDaniel tied the game in the top of the fourth, but CUA managed one in the bottom of the sixth to take the final lead of the game, adding two more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth.
CUA will return to action Saturday, March 14, at Juniata as the Cardinals will open the 2009 Landmark Conference schedule with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
