Baseball Falls to Scranton, 10-8
4/11/09
WASHINGTON-- For the third time in two days, CUA baseball fell to Scranton, this time 10-8. The loss marks the first three-game sweep against CUA this season.
CUA managed 14 hits, including Mike Goodman's (Brookville/Sherwood) three hit, three RBI day, but it wasn't enough as two early errors proved costly, with CUA falling just short a third time against Scranton. In the three games of the series the Cardinals trailed by three, one, and two runs, respectively.
CUA opened the game strong with eight batters coming to the plate in the first inning and scoring three runs, but Scranton answered in the bottom half of the inning with four runs on only two hits, helped by two walks to open the game.
CUA struck again with four runs in the fourth inning, and looked to have the game in hand, but a four run seventh inning by the hosts sealed the game. The Cardinals would score one more run in the top of the next inning, but a double play and a failed stolen base attempt would end the Cardinal threat.
CUA will return to action and look to break the slide against Bridgewater (Va.) on Tuesday at 4 p.m. on the road.
