Baseball Takes Two From Drew Will Look For Sweep Sunday
WASHINGTON-- Led by LJ Travaglia, (Randolph/Randolph) who went 3-4 with two hit by pitches and a walk, CUA baseball took two wins in as many games in the final weekend of Landmark Conference play, 7-2, 9-5.
CUA managed 16 runs, 13 earned as nine different Cardinals recorded at least one hit. Cory Hudson went 2-3 with a double and three RBIs. The biggest statistical jump in the game was eight hit by pitches and six walks earned by the Cards. Of those 14 extra base runners six resulted in a run scored.
In game one, CUA jumped out early with a 2-0 lead after the first, but it would take one in the second that would give the Cardinals all the offense they would need to take a 3-2 lead. The Cards added three insurance runs in the third and one more in the sixth.
In game two it was much of the same. Drew jumped out with three runs early, but CUA cut into the lead in the bottom of the frame and took a 5-3 lead after two. Drew tied it up in the top of the third, but CUA would score single runs in the bottom of the third and fourth and two in the bottom of the fifth to secure the victory and doubleheader sweep.
The Cardinals will look to keep their postseason hopes alive with a series sweep tomorrow as CUA will battle Drew in a nine inning game beginning at 12 p.m.
