Baseball Falls to Gettysburg to End Regular Season
WASHINGTON-- Twelve hits and five runs proved to be not enough as CUA baseball fell, 10-5 at Gettysburg, Tuesday.
While readying themselves for the playoffs, CUA hit the road to battlenon-conference opponent Gettysburg College in the final regular season game of the year. The Cardinals locked in a place in the Landmark Conference playoffs after a doubleheader sweep of Drew University on Saturday, and then completed the series sweep with another win on Sunday.
Today, however, the tables were turned as CUA managed only five runs, while giving up ten on 13 Gettysburg hits and four CUA errors.
The seniors again dominated the CUA hit column with Pat Quintana (Denver/Littleton), Joe Devine (Medford Lakes/Shawnee), Mike Goodman (Brookville/Sherwood) and Kevin Sweeney (Bethesda/St. Anselm's Abbey) all managing at least two hits, with Quintana and Goodman adding three.
CUA took a 2-1 after the top of the third, but saw that lead quickly disappear as the hosts grabbed three in the bottom of the frame and added a single tally in the fourth. CUA cut the lead to one in the top of the eighth but Gettysburg managed five runs on five hits in the bottom of the inning to secure the victory.
CUA will return to action on May 1st at 9 a.m. at Susquehanna University where the Cardinals will take on Susquehanna in the opening round of the 2009 Landmark Conference tournament.
