Bates Edges CUA Baseball
WASHINGTON- Five runs in the fourth inning proved to be the downfall of the CUA baseball team Wednesday afternoon, as the Cards fell to the Bates Bobcats 12-3 at Talbot Field. The home team recorded only five hits on the night. CUA managed just three runs throughout the nine inning game, while giving up 12 runs on 16 Bobcats hits. Each squad recorded three errors apiece.
A single by Gordy Webb scored teammate Rich Velotta to give Bates a 1-0 advantage in the first inning. The Bobcats then scored seven unanswered runs in the next three innings, including three home runs in the fourth, to give them a definitive 8-0 lead.
CUA’s Tommy Little finally helped get the squad on the board in the sixth inning. After stealing second, the senior scored off a Dmitri Deoudes double to give the Cards their first run of the night.
The Bobcats struck back in the top of the seventh with three additional runs to bring the score to 11-1. CUA finished their scoring for the night in the seventh, when a Dave Grear double scored Matt Grieb and Matt Kalokitis.
