Cardinals Erupt for 21 Hits in 15-9 Victory, Complete Sweep of Drew University
(March 21, 2010) -- Catholic University exploded for 21 hits in a 15-9 victory over Drew University to complete a three-game sweep in Madison, N.J., on Sunday.
The Cardinals, who won the past two Landmark Conference championships, improved to 6-3 and 3-0 in league play. The Rangers fell to 0-11 (0-3).
Shortstop L.J. Travaglia led the CUA hit parade at Doc Young Field with four singles in five at-bats. He also scored two runs and knocked in a pair. Right fielder Tommy Bowles was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and four RBIs. Second baseman Tim Mierzwa went 3-for-5, including a double, and scored once.
Mark Kalokitis, Dave Grear and Troy Langway collected two hits apiece. Grear doubled twice and scored three runs for the Cardinals, who scored the game’s first 12 runs.
Ron Esposito picked up the victory, scattering five hits over four innings and striking out four.
CUA returns to action with a Landmark Conference doubleheader at home against Juniata College on Saturday March 27.
