Baseball Picks Up Five All-Conference Honors
WASHINGTON- The Catholic University baseball team earned five All-Conference nods, the Landmark Conference announced Monday. Dimitri Deoudes, Ron Esposito, and Mike Bzozowski were honored as First Team selections, while teammates Tim Mierzwa and Andrew Moldower garnered Second Team accolades.
Dimitri Deoudes finished the year with the best batting average on the CUA squad (.417), managing 48 hits in 115 appearances at the plate. He accumulated 10 doubles, two triples, one homerun, and 40 RBIs on the year. He also added 53 put-outs and finished with a fielding percentage of .981.
Mike Bzozowski was a strong closing pitcher for the Cards this season, completing his senior campaign with the best ERA on the team (2.55) and a win/ loss record of 3-1. Bzozowski allowed just 14 hits in 24.2 innings of work, and was the most prominent closer in CUA history. Fellow pitcher Ron Esposito finished his season with a 2.56 ERA and a 5-3 win/loss record on the mound for the Cardinals. He amassed 35 strikeouts in 52.2 innings.
Tim Mierzwa finished the year with a .333 batting average, starting in all but one game for the Cardinals. He tallied the most runs on the team (35), and tied for third for the most hits (43). Mierzwa also managed 17 RBIs and 104 assists this year.
Rounding out CUA’s All-Conference selections was pitcher Andrew Moldower. In his final year as a Cardinal, Moldower complied a record of 4-2 with an ERA of 5.29. He also struck out 38 batters in 51 innings of work.
