CUA blanked by Frostburg State 7-0
WASHINGTON – CUA had its hands full with Frostburg State
on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Bobcats 7-0 at Talbot
Field. The Cardinals (7-5) managed just one hit in the game,
while Frostburg State (7-6) scored twice in the second and three
more times in the fourth to earn the road win.
Matt Ridenour earned the win on the mound for the visitors,
throwing six innings of shutout ball and allowing just the one
hit. He also struck out eight batters.
CUA’s Robin Mowatt suffered the loss after surrendering five
runs and 11 hits in six innings. He fanned four batters.
Frostburg State got on the board with two runs in the second
inning. A Tyler Hawthorne single plated one of the runs and
Matt Donaldson singled in the other.
The Bobcats added to their lead with three more runs in the
fourth, the big blow coming from Scott Wilson on a three-run
homerun.
Frostburg State then added single runs in the seventh and eighth
and six Bobcats relievers combined to preserve the shutout.
CUA’s lone hit came from LJ Travaglia in the fourth when he
led off with a double. The next three Cardinals were retired
in order though, stranding Travaglia on the basepaths.
The Cardinals begin Landmark Conference play on Saturday, March 19
when CUA plays host to Drew at Talbot Field in a
doubleheader. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for
noon.
