CUA overpowered by No. 4 Shenandoah
WINCHESTER, Va. – CUA had its hands full with the nation's fourth-ranked team on Wednesday as the Cardinals fell to Shenandoah 16-3 at Bridgeforth Field. CUA scored the game's first run but Shenandoah scored ten of the next 11 to seize control of this one. Dimitri Deoudes had a team-high two hits for the Cardinals.
CUA went on top 1-0 when LJ Travaglia crossed on a Hornets error in the top of the first but Shenandoah answered with four runs in the bottom half to take its first lead of the day.
The Cardinals pulled to within 4-2 in the third when Deoudes doubled in Travaglia, but again Shenandoah responded, this time with three runs to increase its lead to five runs.
The Hornets broke things open with a six-run seventh inning and CUA scored its final run in the seventh when Trevor Falk singled home Beriah Smith.
Alec Fenstermacher got the start for CUA and he went three innings and allowed seven runs on seven hits. Justin D'Alessandro, Rob Renzi, Adam Schroth and Troy Langway also saw time on the mound.
Shenandoah starting pitcher Vince Claudio went eight innings, struck out nine and allowed only the three runs.
On Friday CUA begins a three-game series at Scranton. The teams will play a doubleheader beginning at noon on Friday and a single game starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
