Olivero Earns All-South Region Honors From D3Football
Junior named to the third team at safety

12/10/2007

WASHINGTON - Catholic University strong safety Nick Olivero (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) has been named to the D3Football All-South Region third team the site announced Monday.  Olivero was selected at strong safety after having a stellar year both on defense and as a returnman for the Cardinals who finished the season 5-5.

The junior ranked third on the team in tackles with 73, 44 solo and 29 assisted, and also led the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in interceptions with six for 86 yards which ranked him 24th in the nation. These numbers gave him his second nod to the All-ODAC first team. Olivero had three interceptions this year against Emory and Henry which placed him in a tie for second on the CUA and ODAC all-time list for picks in a game.  Olivero was one of CUA's main returnman taking 24 punts for 285 yards including two for touchdowns.  His 285 yards are the most ever for a CUA player in a season and his 88 yards return placed him second on the longest in a game.  Olivero, a team captain on both the football and basketball squads, is currently the third leading scorer for the CUA men's basketball team.

Catholic University football finished 5-5 this past season which was the Cards' best record since the 1999 season and most wins for second year Head Coach Dave Dunn.
