2011 season kicks off on Saturday at McDaniel
WASHINGTON - The 2011 season begins on Saturday afternoon when CUA heads to Westminster, Maryland to face the Green Terror of McDaniel. The Cardinals won three more games last season than they did in 2009 and will look to continue that upward trend beginning this weekend. CUA returns a slew of offensive skill players, led by quarterback Greg Cordivari and running back Mike Pitsenberger. On the other side of the ball, the Cardinals will rely on a strong defensive line, led by All-ODAC selection Alex King.
McDaniel meanwhile went 5-5 a season ago with one of those wins coming vs. CUA. The Green Terror tied for eighth in their conference preseason poll and Saturday is their lone non-conference contest of the entire season.
CUA and McDaniel are meeting for the 15th time this weekend with the Green Terror leading the series 10-4. The schools first met in 1912 and CUA's last win in the series came in 2008 (31-7).
The Cardinals have won four of five season openers under Dave Dunn with the lone loss coming in 2009 vs. Shenandoah. During this time CUA is a perfect 3-0 on the road.
The Cardinals led the ODAC a season ago in fewest sacks allowed. In ten games, CUA gave up just eight sacks, making it the only school in the conference to surrender single digits in that category.
CUA returns a large number of its skill players from last season, including its top passer, rusher and receiver. The Cardinals bring back 92% of their rushing (1,072), 100% of their passing (2,242) and 77% of their receiving (1,732) from 2010.

CUA and McDaniel will get things started at noon on Saturday from inside Scott S. Bair Stadium. McDaniel will have live audio and stats of the game, which can be found here.
