Culpepper named ODAC Defensive Player of the Week
WASHINGTON – One day after helping lead CUA to an exciting 28-24 come-from-behind win over Emory & Henry, senior Miniard Culpepper was named the ODAC Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced on Sunday. Culpepper finished with five tackles and a fumble recovery that led to CUA's game-winning touchdown.
The Wasps were leading the Cardinals 24-21 with 2:35 remaining in the game when Culpepper picked up a fumble that led to Mike Pitsenberger's go-ahead TD with only 21 seconds to play.
Culpepper registered five tackles against E&H, including one on third down that forced a Wasps punt. CUA then scored on its next possession to pull within three.
A native of Massachusetts, Culpepper was one of five Cardinals with at least five tackles. In the fourth quarter the CUA defense held Emory & Henry to a made field goal, two punts, a blocked kick, a fumble and an incomplete pass on the final play of the game.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Friday evening when they travel to Lexington, Va. to face the Generals of Washington & Lee. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
