Cardinals welcome Emory & Henry for Homecoming showdown

WASHINGTON - After picking up an exciting road win last weekend at Apprentice School, CUA returns home on Saturday to face Emory & Henry on Homecoming.  The Cardinals are seeking their first ODAC win of the year, while Emory & Henry will look to snap a tough two-game losing streak with the losses by a combined five points.

CUA received a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown by James Fucillo with two minutes remaining to down Apprentice School last week, while the Wasps scored a touchdown as time expired, but could not convert the two-point conversion and ultimately fell 38-36 vs. Hampden-Sydney.

This weekend marks the 15th meeting all-time between CUA and Emory & Henry with the series knotted at seven wins apiece.  The Wasps won five straight between 2002 and 2006, but CUA has since won three of four, including last year's matchup in Virginia.

CUA held the ball for 30:23 last weekend in Virginia. It was the Cardinals second highest time of possession all season, behind the Carnegie Mellon contest (31:13).

CUA freshman kicker Brian Gongaware has done a terrific job all year for the Cardinals, going a perfect 7 of 7 on field goals and 21 of 22 on extra points. Gongaware is the lone kicker in the ODAC to have not missed a field goal this season.

Fucillo had a strong all-around day last weekend in Virginia, totaling eight tackles, including five solo, to go along with one tackle for loss and a game-clinching interception that he returned 40 yards to pay dirt with 2:07 to play.

CUA's defense registered a season-high 10.0 tackles for loss last week vs. Apprentice School.  Leading the way for the Cardinals was Vinny Cortese (2.5), Rob Schaetzl (2.0) and Aaron Cornwell (2.0).

Saturday's game will get underway beginning at 1 p.m. from inside Cardinal Stadium.  There will be live video and stats of the contest.
