CUA closes out home schedule vs. Guilford on Senior Day
WASHINGTON - CUA welcomes Guilford to
Cardinal Stadium on Saturday on Senior Day. The Cardinals are
looking to finish their home schedule on a high note following a
tough road loss to Washington and Lee last weekend. CUA fell
behind the Generals 21-0 in the opening quarter and was never able
to recover. A pair of sophomores had big games for the
Cardinals with Andrew Ouellette catching six passes for 107 yards
and Conor Stueckler making a career-high 16 tackles.
Guilford comes into this weekend’s contest looking to snap a
seven-game losing streak. The Quakers have not won since a
season-opening victory over Greensboro on September 3.
CUA meets Guilford for the 13th time this weekend with the
Cardinals leading the series 8-4. CUA won last year’s
matchup 23-22, while the Quakers captured the 2009 contest by a
score of 42-21.
Greg Cordivari comes into this weekend needing only five
completions to set the CUA single season record. Keith Ricca
currently holds the record with 257 completions in 2005. Cordivari
is also on pace to become the Cardinals first 3,000-yard passer
since Ricca put up 3,015 yards in 2008.
CUA has played well at home this season, winning two of its three
contests inside Cardinal Stadium. The Cardinals are averaging
more points (30.3), total yards (445.0), pass yards (358.7) and
rush yards (86.3) at home compared to on the road where they
average 27.6 points, 359.6 total yards, 62.0 rush yards and 297.6
pass yards. CUA also has a higher third down conversion rate
at home (39.2) compared to the road (29.7).
Four of CUA’s five wins have been nail biters, with the
Cardinals scoring the game-winning touchdown in the final three
minutes of each of those four victories. In the four last-minute
wins, CUA has led for a combined total of 5:54 in the fourth
quarter.
CUA looks to win its home finale this weekend for the first time
since 2003 when the Cardinals beat Guilford 27-23.
CUA and Guilford will get things started at 1 p.m. on
Saturday. For more information on the matchup, check out this
week’s CUA game notes.
