Cardinals host Yellow Jackets Friday under the lights
WASHINGTON - After suffering its first loss of the 2011 season, CUA looks to bounce back on Friday night when it hosts the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon on Family Weekend. The Cardinals led Hampden-Sydney 10-7 at the half last weekend in Virginia, but a 24-0 third quarter by the Tigers proved to be the difference in a 31-17 outcome. Alonzo Cooke had a big day for the red and black with eight receptions for 112 yards and a pair of scores, but it was not enough.
Randolph-Macon is also looking to rebound following its first loss of the year to ODAC foe Emory & Henry last weekend at home.
CUA meets Randolph-Macon for the 33rd time on Friday with the Yellow Jackets leading the series 18-13. There has also been one tie. The teams first met in 1916. The Cardinals have not beaten Randolph-Macon since earning a 14-7 victory in 2006.
Under Dave Dunn, CUA has enjoyed playing at night. The Cardinals are 5-1 in night games under Dunn, including a 2-0 mark this season.
CUA currently ranks second in the ODAC in passing offense, averaging 352.2 yards per contest. The Cardinals have thrown for at least 288 yards in their four contests with a high of 459 at McDaniel.
In its last three games CUA has forced a total of six fumbles, including four vs. Carnegie Mellon, and the Cardinals have recovered six fumbles, with a high of three at Gallaudet. CUA's six fumble recoveries ranks second in the ODAC.
Junior Alonzo Cooke had a big afternoon last weekend at Hampden-Sydney, tying his season-high with eight receptions for 112 yards. Cooke ranks third in the ODAC in receiving yards (83.8) and for the season has totaled 335 yards on 22 receptions.
