Cortese earns spot on D3Football All-Region Team

WASHINGTON – Senior Vinny Cortese has been named to the 2012 D3Football.com All-South Region Team, it was announced on Tuesday.  A First Team All-ODAC selection, Cortese was named a Third Team All-Region selection after totaling 47 tackles this season.

A member of CUA’s defensive line, Cortese finished the year with 47 total stops, including 9.5 for loss, as well as 5.5 sacks.  The Connecticut native ranked 36th in the ODAC in tackles, fourth in sacks and eighth in tackles for loss.

Cortese recorded a season-high eight tackles twice in 2012, and his three tackles for loss against Guilford were a season best.  Cortese notched at least two tackles for loss in three games, and his 5.5 sacks led the Cards.

Cortese finished his career with totals of 163 tackles, 28.5 tackles for loss and 14.5 sacks.

This marks the second straight year in which at least one Cardinal received All-Region accolades.
