HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- The Catholic University football team has been selected as the preseason favorite to win the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in a vote by the league's coaches Friday at Hampden-Sydney College.

The Cardinals (9-2 in 1999) won the ODAC title last season with a conference record of 6-0 and made their third consecutive appearance in the NCAA playoffs. They open the 2000 season at John Carroll University on Sept. 2.

Predicted order of finish with last year's record in parentheses:

2) Randolph-Macon (5-5)
3) Bridgewater (5-5)
4) Emory & Henry (6-4)
5) Washington & Lee (5-5)
6) Guilford (4-6)
7) Hampden-Sydney (1-9)
