LANCASTER, Pa.-- Despite 338 total yards of offense the CUA football team (0-2) fell Saturday to Franklin and Marshall (2-0), 42-21.

Mike Smith and Alonzo Cooke were Cantafio's favorite targets as Smith grabbed 11 passes for 92 yards and a score while Cooke gabbed seven for 127 yards and a touchdown. Rich Barry led the ground attack gaining 59 yards on 12 carries.
The Diplomats scored on their second drive of the game when John Harrison found George Eager on an 11-yard pass in the endzone with 5:02 on the clock. Harrison then made the Cardinals pay after Cantafio threw an interception as he found Alan Williams in the endzone for a 14-yard score.
CUA battled back going 78 yards on 13 plays and taking up over six minutes scoring at the 11:47 mark of the second quarter. Dan Zentz capped the drive with a 2-yard rush. The Cardinals followed that score up with a quick 4-play, 57-yard drive that took only 57 seconds off the clock, scoring on a 42-yard pass from Cantafio to Cooke.
CUA scored too fast because with only 41 seconds remaining in the half, Franklin and Marshall got the ball back and marched down the field on three plays going 54 yards, capped by a 31-yard pass from Harrison to John Kaschak.
In the second half it was nearly all F&M as the Diplomats scored three more times before CUA answered early in the fourth quarter with a 6-yard pass from Cantafio to Mike Smith.
The Cardinals finished the day with 338 total yards of offense, but gave up 415 to the Diplomats. CUA out-rushed F&M 71-46, but two interceptions gave the Diplomats good field position that they capitalized on both times with scores.
CUA will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 19, on the road again as the Cardinals will travel to McDaniel College for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
