CUA opens league play vs. Tigers on Homecoming
WASHINGTON - CUA opens its 2010 ODAC
schedule on Saturday afternoon as the Cardinals welcome the Tigers
of Hampden-Sydney to Cardinal Stadium on Homecoming.
Following last week’s 41-31 road loss at Albright, the
Cardinals are looking to snap a two-game losing streak, while
Hampden-Sydney will be looking for its fifth straight win to start
the 2010 season.
CUA and Hampden-Sydney have played one another 19 previous times
with the Tigers leading the series 10-9. Hampden-Sydney won
last year’s matchup, but CUA prevailed 33-21 in 2008.
CUA’s quick-strike offense was in full gear at
Albright. Of the Cardinals’ five scoring drives, the
longest took only 2:32. The average time of CUA’s
scoring drives was 1:44.
Sophomores Greg Cordivari and Alonzo Cooke continue to make life
difficult for opposing defenses. That pair hooked up six
times for 99 yards and a pair of scores last weekend, and for the
season, Cordivari has thrown five touchdowns to Cooke. Cooke
is among the national leaders this season, averaging 19.9 yards per
catch.
After not registering any takeaways vs. McDaniel, the CUA defense
rebounded with two at Albright. Ryan Klein picked off a pass
and Kevin Ross recovered a fumble to bring the Cardinals season
total to eight takeaways.
